Hi there! I’m Alex, and I love food. When I’m not busy with graduate school for speech-language pathology, you can find me in my kitchen.
My blog is called Genuss because that is the German word for enjoyment, and that perfectly describes how I feel about cooking. I enjoy everything from the moment I enter the kitchen to the moment I sit down to share a meal with someone I love.
Both of my parents are fantastic cooks, and I was always that kid in elementary school who teachers and peers alike dubbed “gourmet lunch girl.” My parents taught me how to make everything from scratch and use simple ingredients to create fantastic meals.
I’m almost done with graduate school (December 2017, can I get an amen?!) and am a soon-to-be speech-language pathologist. School has been a stressful journey, and I could not have made it this far without cooking as my creative outlet. Since starting grad school in 2015, I have become more daring and creative in the kitchen.
I live with my boyfriend Eric, who is my greatest love and my primary recipe tester. My happiest moment every day is sitting down and sharing a meal with him. In the last year, Eric and I have made the step to drastically reduce the amount of meat we eat. I cook almost entirely vegetarian and vegan meals at home, in an effort to be more environmentally friendly and to challenge my culinary creativity. On my blog you will find mostly vegetarian meals, which is largely reflective of how we eat every day. If you would have asked us a few years ago if we could be vegetarians, we would have said “no way!” but we have been pleasantly surprised at how we feel and all the amazing vegetarian and vegan meals we have discovered.
I’m very new to the blogging world, so bear with me as I learn how to navigate this. I don’t even have a smart phone yet so if that tells you anything, I am NOT great with technology. Hopefully my recipes will make up for it 😉
One of the best things about cooking is being able to share food with those around me. My cooking certainly isn’t perfect, but damn if it doesn’t put a smile on people’s faces! I hope you can recreate these meals in your home and share them with those you love.
Cheers!
